Sunland Gasoline March 14, 2000
. 2083 Fremont Street, Stockton, California Page 3
Report of Findings, Site Characterization
3.1 Drilling
Permits were obtained, as necessary, for the borings before drilling began. The soil
borings were accomplished using a mobile'mounted drilling rig employing the use
of a hollow stem flight auger no less than 3 114-inch i.d. and 8 718 o,d,
All drilling equipment was thoroughly steam cleaned before drilling began, to
prevent the introduction of contamination from off site, and between borings to
prevent cross contamination.
' The borings were logged under the direct supervision of a registered professional
using the Unified Sol] Classification System (Appendix A). The color, texture,
moisture, plasticity (if applicable), consistency of the earth materials, pertinent soil
or bedrock characteristics, and any evidence of contamination was noted. All
water-bearing zones and the depths at which they were encountered were noted on
these logs (Appendix B).
' All borings were drilled in such a manner as to prevent cross contamination
between strata. The borings were then terminated with a cement and three percent
' (3%) Bentonite mixture.
r3.2 Soil Sampling
' All soil sampling equipment was thoroughly steam cleaned before and between
sampling to prevent cross contamination. Relatively undisturbed soil samples were,
taken at intervals of five feet (5') in order to evaluate the subsurface materials.
' The soil samples were taken using a California Modified Split Spoon sampler with
brass liners. The sampler was driven continuously by a wire line hammer.
' The laboratory samples did not have head space and were immediately seated in
their liners using Teflon® lined plastic caps. The remaining sample was removed
from it's liner and used as an aide to the on-site professional in logging the material
at that depth.
' Soil samples collected for analysis were analyzed using EPA method 8015 for
gasoline petroleum hydrocarbons, EPA method 8020 for BTEX compounds, and
EPA method 8260 for oxygenates. Analyses were conducted by GeoAnalytical
Laboratories, Inc. a State certified laboratory. All samples were recorded on a
Chain of Custody and placed in an Ice Chest with Blue Ice® for transport to the
lab.
