CAMBRIA
Soil Types Soil types encountered in borings SB-7 through S13-11 include
clay, silty clay, silt, clayey silt, sandy silt, sand, silty sand, and
gravelly sand Another soil type encountered was "stiff fine-
grained" which is a CPT category that does not translate directly
the Unified Soil Classification System Comparing the CPT logs
to boring logs from hollow-stem auger borings drilled nearby, it
appears that soils logged as "stiff fine-grained" correspond to
silts and clays In general, soils beneath the site are primarily
fine-grained soils (silts and clays) with some coarser-grained
zones (sands) occurring at depths of approximately 80 fbg and
110 fbg
Chemical Analyses Groundwater and soil samples were analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gas (TPHg), benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX), methyl tertiary butyl ether
(MTBE), ethanol, tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME), ethyl
tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA),
diisopropyl ether (D1PE), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), and
ethylene dibromide (EDB)by EPA Method 8260
HYDROCARBON DISTRIBUTION IN SOIL
Boring SB-8 was drilled slightly northwest of the northwestern dispenser island Soil samples
were collected from this boring from 10 fbg to 80 fbg to assess the vertical extent of petroleum
hydrocarbons in the soil TPHg and benzene were detected at 70 fbg at concentrations of 17 and
0 011 parts per million (ppm), respectively TPHg, benzene, fuel oxygenates, or lead scavengers
were not detected in an of the other soil samples from boring SB-8
The soil chemical analytical data are summarized in Table 2 and are presented on Figure 2 The
certified analytical reports for the soil samples are presented in Appendix C
•
0797 3
