All drill cuttings will be contained onsite on plastic sheets
during drilling and then covered, until the analytical results
are available. The soil piles will be labeled with the borehole
number, owner's name, and date. The drill cuttings will be
disposed of at proper facilities on the basis of soil sample
analysis. Drill cuttings free of contamination will be disposed
. of on the site.
4 . 2 SOIL SAMPLING
i.e.
Soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals, and at any
substantial changes of soil type, beginning at 5 feet below the
ground surface, with a 2-inch-diameter, 18-inch split-spoon drive
sampler. The sampler and its three 6-inch brass tube liners will
be steam cleaned before use in each hole and scrubbed in
deionized water and trisodium phosphate and rinsed with deionized
water after every sample. Soil samples will be collected to the
F total depth of the borehole unless heaving sand is encountered.
Every attempt will be made to collect a soil sample at the water
table (expected at about 45 to 50 feet below ground surface) .
<. The sampler, lined with three clean 2-inch by 6-inch brass tubes,
will be driven 18 inches ahead of the drill augers into undis-
turbed soil. The lowermost liner will be retrieved, and the ends
of the tube covered with aluminum foil and sealed with plastic
caps. The soil samples will be labeled with the sample date,
depth, sampler anc! borehole number, placed in zip lock bags, and
stored in a cooler containing ice.
Soil samples will be delivered, under chain of custody, to -
laboratory certified by the California Department of Health
Services WHS) . The samples will be analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons by DHS-modified FPA Method 8015 and for benzene,
toluene, xylenes, and ethylbenzene (BTXE) by EPA Method 8020 -
w
c5t /97780/6-90/tx 7
