06 January 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 02-0896
Page 3 of 7
It is our understanding that no additional authorized investigation has been performed at the site
since the removal of the USTs and sampling of the excavation.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
AGE proposes to collect soil samples to determine if petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil and/or
ground water is present beneath the site. The preliminary site assessment will include the following
tasks:
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• Advancement of soil borings;
• Soil and groundwater sample collection and analysis;
• Completion of a sensitive receptor survey; and
• Report preparation.
The preliminary site assessment tasks are discussed below.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
A site assessment boring permit will be obtained from the SJCEHD for all on-site borings locations
A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).
Prior to mobilization,the area of excavation will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained
through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL AND GROUNDWATER SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially,a single soil borings will be advanced within the former 1,000-gallon UST excavation;the
proposed soil boring location is presented on Figure 2. If hydrocarbon-impacted soil and/or ground
water is encountered in samples from the initial boring, additional soil borings may be advanced as
necessary to determine the lateral and vertical extent of contamination.
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc.
