Field Procedures
(Appendix A) , that the proposed soil borings are continuously cored . Continuous
core work was not done during the previous field operation which took place on
September 25, 1997. At that time soil samples were collected every five feet. In
the " Subsurface Investigation Report" prepared by Clearwater Group , Inc.
following the advancemen ofsoifUiorings SI3_- 1 through -6 and the installation
of monitoring wells MW- 1 MW-2 and MW-3 on September 25, 1997 , it was stated
that there was inconsistent correlation of beds between the installed monitoring
wells. A more complete lithologic description can be obtained with continuous
core borings and would be an aid in preparation of subsurface geological cross-
sections that should be prepared . Section 3 . 0 Project Report of the work plan
should be amended to include the requirement of cross-sectional drawings .
As stated in PHS/EHD correspondence dated August 20 , 1998 , the need to
continue analysis for fuel oxygenates can be reevaluated after a confirmation
analysis has been performed by EPA method 8260 . The analysis using EPA
method 8240 performed on the water samples collected during the third quarter
1998 monitoring event, which took place on September 29, 1998 , was run on
October 9 , 1998 , three days in excess of the holding time for non-preserved
samples. The analysis was also run with elevated detection limits . The detection
limit for methyl tertiary butyl ether should be 1 . 0 ppb . Therefore, the analysis
needs to be repeated .
A Division or San Joaquin County Health Care Services
