San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD)has reviewed Work Plan
Addendum—October 2004 dated October 20, 2004, and prepared by Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) for the above-referenced site. This work plan addresses the
advancement of six-paired cone penetrometer testing (CPT)borings to depths of 225 feet
below ground surface (bgs)to investigate soil lithology and hydrogeologic units, and to
define the vertical and lateral extent of impacted groundwater. CPT-1 is to be advanced at
the former underground storage tank location at the northwest corner of this site, and CPT-
7 is to be advanced approximately eight feet west of monitoring well MW-7 at the south
end of this site; CPT-4 is to be advanced at the southwest corner of 331 North Aurora
Street; CPT-5 is to be advanced at the northwest comer of 825 East Miner Avenue; CPT-6
is to be advanced at the southern edge of 835 East Miner Avenue; and CPT-8 is to be
advanced on the west side of Grant Street opposite monitoring well MW-3.
Although many of the CPT boring locations differ from what EHD proposed during a
meeting with AGE on June 12, 2003, EHD approves the work plan as submitted. EHD also
recommends that an additional CPT-paired boring (CPT-9)be advanced to a total depth of
225 feet bgs at the southern boundary of 806 East Lindsey Street. EHD believes this
newly-proposed boring would complete the investigation to the north for the above-
referenced site. Please submit access agreements for each parcel, the City of Stockton
encroachment permit, boring permit applications for each parcel, and permit fees of$89.00
per parcel, to EHD by December 6, 2004. Fieldwork must be completed by December 17,
2004 and the report of finding must be submitted within eight weeks of completing the
fieldwork.
EHD directs you to collect grab groundwater samples from each distinct, saturated
permeable zone during the advancement of the paired borings. Although the work plan
proposes to analyze groundwater samples by Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) SW-
846 Method 8260B and report the entire suite of analytes, EHD recommends that you
report only compounds that have historically shown positive results. These include
benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, total xylenes, di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), methyl tertiary-
butyl ether(MTBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), 1,2-
dibromoethane(EDB), n-butyl benzene, sec-butyl benzene, tert-butyl benzene, carbon
disulfide, chloroform, chloromethane, p-isopropyltoluene,methyl ethyl ketone,
