07 June 2012
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0184
The proposed SVE/IAS well locations are based on estimated SVE/IAS radius of
influences (ROI's) of approximately 25 feet and 20 feet, respectively. Proposed wells are
selectively placed near existing monitoring wells, which will be used to evaluate hydrologic
changes during sparging and to evaluate the effectiveness of remedial operations.
Proposed SVE and IAS well locations are illustrated in Figure 2. Procedures for the
installation of the remediation wells are described below in Section 4.1.
3.3. CONTEMPORARY SVE AND IN-SITU AIR SPARGING WELL NETWORK
Previous feasibility pilot test work plans have been submitted for the site. The Feasibility
Pilot Tests Work Plan, dated 09 September 2009 which included a scope for an air-sparge
pilot test, has been completed and reported by In-Situ AirSparging& Soil Vapor Extraction
Feasibility Pilot Test Report, dated 10 March 2010 . Air was injected into drowned vapor
well VW-5C and soil vapor extraction was performed on wells EW-1,VW-2A, VW-3,VW-4,
VW-5A and VW-5B throughout the IAS pilot test.
Vapor well VW-5 was drilled at an angle of 100 from vertical directed N 800 W, with a
horizontal run of 9.7 feet, and was triple-completed as a vapor extraction remediation well.
Well VW-5A is screened from 13 feet bsg to 23 feet bsg'VW-5B from 26.5 to 41.5 feet
bsg, and VW-5C from 45 to 55 feet bsg, additionally, vapor well VW-21B is screened from
44 to 54 feet bsg/These final two well screens are proposed for active in-situ air sparging
surrounding the former norther UST area. .-
3.4. INSTALLATION OF SVE/IAS SYSTEM PIPING
Three-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping will be installed 12-inches below surface
grade and routed from the SVE well heads to the vapor extraction unit. PVC ball valves will
be connected from a two-inch diameter underground piping adapter to the well heads of
the SVE wells. One-inch diameter, schedule 80 PVC piping will be installed in the common
trench and routed from each IAS well head to the IAS system. The proposed SVE/IAS
piping system is illustrated in Figure 7. Currently, piping is installed 12-inches below the
surface of the site and routed from the SVE well heads to the vapor extraction unit.
Additionally, PVC tubing and ball valves will be connected and routed from each
designated existing IAS well head to the proposed IAS system.
The proposed IAS piping system will be installed within the current remediation compound.
Air should be supplied to each of the IAS points via piping by a compressor or
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
