V Page 3
Former Moresco Property-IRAP
Project No. 251.3
April 8, 1997
L.
Soil cutting generated during the soil boring installation will be containerized in DOT
approved 55 gallon drums and stored within the fenced yard on site
2.6 Cross Contamination Prevention
- All sampling equipment (split spoon sampler and brass liners, etc.) and drilling equipment
(drilling rod, drilling bits, & auger, etc.) will be thoroughly steam cleaned before each use. If
field evidence suggest that the equipment being cleaned has residual hydrocarbons then a
containment trough will be used to catch the water which will be containerized and disposed
of properly. Plastic gloves will be worn while collecting samples and changed between every
sampling interval.
2.7 Chain of Custody
A Chain of Custody (CofC) form, a legal document, is completed at the time the samples are
&. taken, and accompanies them from field to laboratory. On it are listed dates, times, persons
handling samples, their companies, client's name, project name, project location, sample
identification, number of samples, sample type, analyses required and any special
LO information needed by the laboratory to properly analyze the sample(s) submitted. This
document is not only important for verifying proper handling of the samples, but is essential
in substantiating their integrity.
'W' 2.8 Sample Analyses
At the end of the sampling day the boring samples will be taken to Sherwood Labs of Hilmar.
. Sherwood is a Department of Health Services certified laboratory (# 1400). Soil samples are
to be analyzed for gasoline (TPH-gasoline) and benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes
(BTEX) using EPA methods 8015 modified and 8020, respectively.
2.9 Detection Limits
Detection limits for BTEX and TPH-gasoline in soil matrices is 5 µg/kg and 2.5 mg/kg
respectively.
Detection limits for BTEX and TPH-gasoline in air is 0.3/(0.6 X) tg/l and 0.5 mg/I
respectively.
2.10 Air Sample Collection, Handling, and Testing
The air sample collection is as follows: 1) the air is drawn through one extraction well at
time during sample collection, 2) air is drawn from the piping system and pumped into a 1
liter capacity Tedlar bag, 3) the sample is labeled and stored in an ice chest, 4) the samples
. are transported directly to Sequoia Analytical of Sacramento, California by overnight courier
for immediate analysis. The samples will be tested for BTEX and TPH-Gasoline.
w..
