y
GcoloVkdTezhniu Irm Page 3
McGranahan(Gawne Road)
Project No.251.2
February 9,1996
s
I
2.2 Laboratory Testing Procedures
2.2.1 Soil Chemical Analyses
Based on field screening observations at least five soil samples from each boring I
including one from the capillary fringe Ewill be submitted to a Iicensed analytical
laboratory and analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX by
EPA method 8020); and gasoline range;:petroleum hydrocarbons analyses (TPH-
Gasoline by EPA method 5030/8015m). The detection limits for these compounds
are listed below. A Chain of Custody will be completed for all samples collected
and tracked to ensure sample integrity.
Detection Limits: BTEX TPH-Gas
Soil (µg/Kg) 3.0 1,000
2.2.2 Soil Physical Characteristics Parameter Testing
In order to estimate Oe mass of remnant_hydrocarbons we propose to measure the
bulk density of soil samples representative for contaminant loading; areas. By
simply multiplying concentration (from earlier soil samples collected at the point of
release) times density an estimate for the;mass of remaining hydrocarbons can be
derived. f
i
To evaluate the site's potential for naturally attenuating the contamination (fate) or
limiting it's potential for further transport (transport) we propose to select certain
samples to be tested for specific physical characteristics. The tests can provide
information to be used with computer model to predict the risk for groundwater
impact over time. Favorable results may qualify this site for rapid closure.
The physical characteristics that are proposed include, percent moisture, grain size
distribution, bulk density, total organic, carbon (TOC), cation exchange capacity
(CEC), and pH. The following table will be used in the report and lists the intervals
that we propose to test for these parameters.
r
w
r
