Page 2 * Chemical analyses indicates that no unacceptable levels of hydrocarbon contamination remain Contamination can not be determined Soil samples will be collected from the bottom and/ or sidewalls of the excavation in areas of suspected contamination to verify the effectiveness of excavation activities . Soils removed during overexcavation will be screened and segregated based on field observations . If it is suspected that the soils contain detectable levels of oil and grease , these soils will be segregated away from the other stockpiles and a soil sample will be collected for analysis . The piles will be arranged as to take advantage of site space . Soils suspected to be oil contaminated will be placed on visqueen pending analytical results and subsequent disposal . Gasoline contaminated soils will be aerated on - site upon receiving aeration permits for reuse as on - site backfill material . Soils generated ( SP - la-b through SP - 6a -b ) from the gasoline UST and line removal will also be aerated for subsequent on - site disposal as backfill material . Soil Sampling and Analysis Soil samples will be collected in clean 6 - inch- long brass bis ( 2 inch—diameter);covered—at both ends—with—teflon tape and sealed with plastic end caps . The soil samples will be labeled , entered on a Chain- of - Custody form , put in a cooler with crushed ice and transported to a State - certified analytical laboratory . The samples collected from the pump island excavation will be analyzed for Total Petroleum Fydrocarbons ( TPH ) calculated as Gasoline according to EPA NIe -. hod 8015 ( Modified ) and Benzene , Toluene , Ethyl Benzene and Xylenes ( BTEX ) according to EPA Method 8020 . Soil ' Pcc iples collected from the waste oil tank , sump and hoist rr : ds will be analyzed for TPH - gas , BTEX , Total Oil and ( r : ase ( TOG ) according to EPA Method 5520F , Semi -Volatile cw anic Compounds according to EPA Method 8270 . P,z _lavated soils will be stockpiled on site and a soil stockpile sample will be collected for approximately every 25 cubic yards of excavated soil prior to covering with plastic . Four samples will then be composited in the laboratory for an analysis representative of approximately each 100 cubic yards of soil . Stockpile sampling will be for the purpose of characterizing soil for appropriate treatment e - na / or disposal requirements .
