WORK PLAN
MONITORING WELL ABANDONMENT
Pete's Place
9355 West Highway 4
Stockton, California
November 1995
1.0. ]INTRODUCTION
In accordance with a request from Mr. James Whetsell, Jr. of Pete's Place, has prepared the enclosed
Work Plan for Monitoring Well Abandonment for the property at 9355 West Highway 4 in Stockton,
California(the site). The location of the site is illustrated in Figure 1. A plan of the site is illustrated
in Figure 2.
2.0. BACKGROUND
2.1. SITE LOCATION
Pete's Place is located in on the north side of West Highway 4 approximately seven miles west of
Stockton, California. The site is located within the San Joaquin Delta:; surrounding land use is
agricultural. The property is topographically flat and is located west of the San Joaquin River. One
building is located on the property.
2.2. INITIAL INVESTIGATION
Two underground storage tanks(USTs)were removed from the site in June 1991. One 12,00,0-gallon
regular gasoline UST and one 8,000-gallon unleaded gasoline UST weire .rernoved from the ground
by Holt Repair and Manufacturing. Subsequently, Thorpe Oil removed the USTs from the site.
Groundwater was encountered during tank removal. The excavation was backfilled with the
Ycav?ted soil.
FGL Environmental Laboratories sampled both water and soil from the excavation. The samples
were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH as gas), total lead, 'EDB and volatile aromatics
(BTE&X). TPH as gasoline was detected in the water sample collected fFom beneath the 12,000-
gallon tank at concentrations of 24 mg/1 (parts per million).
During the installation of the monitoring well, petroleum hydrocarbons contamination was
encountered in soil samples MWl-10, at 0.0054 mg/kg (parts per million),just above the method
detection limits. No petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in a ground water sample collected from
the well. Therefor, no further action was recommended at the site.
