PHS/EHD has prepared the
following comments for your consideration. >f
Quarterly Summary Report i
This report included the results of the February 14, 1994 groundwater sampling event. No
contaminants were detected. However, Table 3 indicated that the detection limit was 0.2
ppb for BTEX when in fact according to the Priority Environmental Labs report dated
February 23, 1994 included within the Quarterly Summary Report, the actual detection limit
was 0.5 ppb for BTEX. `l
l This report also included the results of the February 22, 1994 exploratory trenching.
PHS/EHD in correspondence dated December 21, 1993 concurred that excavation was an
effective interim remedial alternative. PHS/EHD staff was not aware until February 22,
1994 that exploratory trenching was scheduled instead of the interim remedial action which
was approved. The information:that was obtained continued to define the extent of soil
contamination; however, please provide more specific plans of proposed work in the future.
No contamination with the exception of TOG were detected. Please be informed that Table
4 incorrectly indicated the detection limit as 5 ppm for BTEX when in fact according the
Priority Environmental Labs report dated February 24, 1994 the detection limit was 5 ppb
BTEX. PHS/EHD noted that the sample collected immediately west of the building was
located 8 feet south of SB9 and was both odorous and discolored.
i
EPM correspondence dated Ma ` 10 1994 and MLay 25 1994
EPM discussed the proposed groundwater extraction and remediation program which
consisted of groundwater extraction and treatment using a fluidized-bed bioreactor, soil
vapor extraction, and in-situ biodegradation (bioventing).
A r)i%ision of San Joagnin County Health Care Services
