These reports were prepared on behalf of the Discharger by Ludorff &
Scalmanini Engineers, and submitted as a requirement of Waste Discharge Requirement
Order No. R5-2004-0157. Enclosed are staffs comments in two separate monitoring report
compliance checklists. Groundwater data indicates that the underlying aquifer continues to be
polluted from historical plant operations. The Discharger has closed their surface
impoundments and is in the process of implementing corrective action measures to mitigate
the groundwater pollution.
The Regional Water Board looks forward to working with SMS Briners with your compliance
issues. If you have any questions regarding these comments, please contact me directly at
916-464-4679.
(U"V6(
HOWARD HOLD
Engineering Geologist
Title 27 Unit
San Joaquin River Watershed
Enclosures: Monitoring Report Compliance Checklist Annual 2005 Report
Monitoring Report Compliance Checklist Semi-Annual Monitoring Report
cc: Mr. Mike Infurma, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department w/enclosures
Ms. Vicki Krestinger, Luhdorff and Scalmanini Engineers, Woodland w/enclosures
California Environmental Protection Agency
ea Recycled Paper
