measurements will be made for quality control purposes. Pre-and post-test water level data
will also be collected to establish baseline water level elevations.
5.5 Groundwater Extraction Program
As described above, a letter to the RWQCB is proposed to summarize the results of the
follow-on CPT investigation and to finalize the location of the proposed test well/extraction
well. Subsequently, following construction of the test well and the performance of the
proposed aquifer testing, a supplement to this report would be prepared. The supplemental
report will include the CPT results,the results of the aquifer testing, and any updates made to
the capture zone analysis. Additionally, other details of the planned groundwater extraction
program will be provided in the latter report, including:
■ Extent of salt-affected area beneath the ponds;
■ Description of capture zone model parameter update as applicable and also model
calibration using water level data obtained during the aquifer test;
■ Capture zone scenarios utilizing installed test well/extraction well (varied flow rates);
■ Discussion of capture zone effectiveness;
■ Test well groundwater quality results;
• Extracted water demands (i.e., water use for Kruger and SMS operations);
■ Discharge options(handling would be similar to current methods, i.e.,wastewater
will be discharged through subsurface injection in the SMS Briners Class I permitted
injection well;brine will also shipped off site with raw product); and
■ Extraction facilities, including planned extraction rates, the quantity and location of
extracted groundwater storage, and additional piping as necessary to deliver extracted
groundwater for onsite uses.
© LUHDORFF & SCALMANINI
CONSULTING ENGINEERS II
b
