c. MW3A (Groundwater quality of the shallow zone immediately south and
upgradient of the ponds): Monitor progress toward achieving the WQPS near
the salt source area(i.e., former ponds);
d. MW4A(Groundwater quality of the shallow zone southwest and upgradient
of the ponds and near the Creek): Monitor the effectiveness of facility
drainage improvements and significantly reduced salt levels in stormwater
discharged to the Creek on the restoration of shallow groundwater quality to
the WQPS;
e. Well A(Groundwater quality of the shallow zone southeast and upgradient of
the ponds): Monitor progress toward water quality improvements just beyond
the southeasterly extent of the capture zone; and
f. EW 1 (Groundwater quality of the shallow zone north and downgradient of the
ponds): Monitor progress toward achieving the WQPS downgradient of the
salt source area(i.e., former ponds).
Sampling of the corrective action wells will occur semi-annually in coordination with the
existing evaluation monitoring program; samples will also be analyzed for the same
constituents. Additional analyses are also proposed for well EWl,particularly analyses for
1,2-dibromocloropropane(DBCP) due to previous detections of this compound in Well C
which has since been discontinued for use as a site water supply well. DBCP has not been
used at the facility,but nearby agricultural land uses appear to have contributed to the
occurrence of low levels of this constituent in local groundwater.
6.2 Groundwater Levels
Groundwater surface elevations (in feet and hundredths, MSL)in all evaluation monitoring
wells are measured on a quarterly basis and used to determine the velocity and direction of
groundwater flow and also vertical gradients. In accordance with the WDRs, the data are
used to construct groundwater contour maps for the shallow and deep groundwater zones for
inclusion in the semi-annual and annual monitoring reports. Groundwater levels will
continue to be monitored during corrective action on the same schedule as required in the
WDRs. Pumping water levels will also be monitored in well EW 1. Additionally,
supplemental water level data are planned to be collected at the start-up of the extraction
program from transducers and data loggers installed in up to six of the dedicated monitoring
wells. These data will supplement other water level data and will be used to preliminarily
assess the effective area of capture achieved with the new extraction well (EWl).
© LUHDORFF & SCALMANINI
CONSULTING ENGINEERS 13
