Mr. Howard Hold
October 6, 2004
Page 3
• A minimum of two CPT borings located approximately 600 to 1,200 feet west of the
north and south ponds to depths of up to approximately 160 to 180 feet;
• One CPT boring located approximately 500 feet south of south pond (south of Littlejohns
Creek)to a depth of up to approximately 150 to 180 feet(will assess extent in both
shallow and deep zones);
• One CPT boring located approximately 400 feet southwest of MW4B to a depth of up to
approximately 160 to 180 feet;
Deep CPT Locations
• One CPT boring located approximately 100 to 300 feet northwest of the north pond to a
depth of up to approximately 200 feet;
• One CPT boring located approximately 500 feet west of south pond to a depth of up to
approximately 220 feet;
The proposed CPT locations for the shallow and deep zones are shown on Figures 1 and 2.
Sample Collection
Ground-water samples from each CPT boring will be collected for both field analysis of
electrical conductivity and laboratory submittal. The laboratory samples will be analyzed for
WQPS constituents (chloride and TDS) as noted in the Kruger Foods—SMS Briners tentative
revised Monitoring and Reporting Program(July 15, 2004).
Sample Handling and Ground-Water Chemical Analyses
As is routinely performed for the ongoing monitoring program, a state-certified laboratory will
perform the analyses and the usual chain of custody procedures for sample handling will be
followed. All samples will be placed in ice chests and kept at 4 degrees Celsius until analyzed.
Samples will be delivered to the laboratory the same day they are collected.
Evaluation Monitoring Report
Per the schedule specified in the July 15, 2004 tentative revised WDRs, an updated report
characterizing the impact to ground-water quality in the shallow and deep zones in the vicinity of
the ponds will be submitted to the RWQCB. This report will include the locations of the CPT
borings as well as the depths at which water quality samples were collected. The results of water
quality sampling along with updated isocontours of the areal and vertical extent of elevated
chloride and total dissolved solids in ground water will be presented. The semi-annual ground-
water sampling event will be coordinated in conjunction with the collection of samples from the
CPT borings to provide ground-water quality data at a similar time period for purposes of the
updated analysis of site conditions.
