The
final monitoring program incorporates revisions to the d on pursuant to our meeting of
14 December 1994 and your 19 December 1994 follow-up letter.
As agreed, ground water samples will be analyzed for hydrocarbons in the purgeab range (C4 to C12)
by Modified 8015 - Purge and Trap, and reported as total petroleum hydroc ns (TPH) as purgeable
crude. Since you have stated that no refined product was ever used in t former pipeline and that the
free product on the ground water has been fingerprinted as weathered crude, speciation of the
purgeable range hydrocarbons (i.e., gasoline, kerosene, anddiese-1 no. 2), as provided in the original
draft MRP, will not be necessary. Similarly, ground ater s ples will be analyzed for hydrocarbons
in the extractable range (Cl to C32) by Modified 8015 E tfaction, and reported as TPH as extractable
crude, rather than speciated as TPH as diesel no. a PH as weathered crude. For reporting
purposes, the upper limit for extractable hydl}roc r s has been lowered from CIO to C31 to more
accurately reflect the detection range of the \ o tograph machine. In addition, chromatographs of
all detected hydrocarbons will be submitteix the moni riports, as agr ed.
lNs
As in the draft MRP, ground water sa p s will also b& analyzed for b zene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and xylenes by EPA Method 8020, for olynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons by EPA Method 8310, and
for total recoverable petroleum hydr carbons (TRPH) by EPA Method 418.1. We believe that the
TRPH analysis is necessary to qu tify heavy hydrocarbons which may be extracted from a ground
water sample, but cannot be de cted by chromatographic methods (C311)-
If you Ihave any ues ' ns ou may call me at (916) 255-3141.
JOH D.
