Dear Mr. Moody:
This letter confirms the procedures associated with the duplicate groundwater sampling to be
conducted by the Region Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) at the Dividend property,
located in Tracy California. The duplicate sampling will be performed on August 9, 1995 during
the fourth quarterly groundwater monitoring event. Duplicate samples will be obtained from
groundwater monitoring wells MW-13 and MW-23 under the direct supervision of the RWQCB.
Samples will be transmitted to RWQCB laboratories for analysis by RWQCB personnel.
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc. (Geomatrix) will conduct the sampling on behalf of Chevron Pipe
Line Company (CPL).
Based on discussions held on August 7, 1995 between you, Y. May Hoe (RWQCB), and Martin
Bloes (CPL/Geomatrix), the following analytical procedures will be conducted by the RWQCB's
laboratories:
Samples will be analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) using
EPA Method 8021; gas chromatography with a photoionization detector(PID) and an
electrolytic conductivity detector(ELCD). '—
• Some samples may be centrifuged to try to reduce any positive interference resulting from
particulate matter in the samples.
I
• Any samples showing evidence of gasoline/diesel range hydrocarbons will be sent to an
outside laboratory by the RWQCB for fingerprinting.
Chevron Pipe Line Company requests to be informed prior to the RWQCB transmitting any
samples to an outside laboratory for fingerprinting. This will enable us clarify analytical methods
in order to maintain project continuity.
i
I
I
