i
M
• The soil stockpile will remain covered with plastic and BAA will not attempt to
bioremediate or aerate the soils After the stocpile evaluation has been completed,
a final decision will be made as to if soils will be disposed off site or remediated on
site
3 6 Report of Excavation
A report of excavation and disposal will be completed describing all work completed
during the remedial excavation The report will include excavation quantities, the
results of the soil sampling, a description of all sampling methods, and backfilling
methods The report will be submitted following the completion of the disposal of
the excavated soil and will address the stockpile characterization
4.0 PLAN FOR DETERMINING GROUNDWATER CONTAMINATION
As requested by the SJCPHS, water sampling will be performed at the three wells on
site Groundwater sampling will be initiated after completion of the excavation
remediation.
Piezometers P-1 and P-2 will be developeci prior to initial sampling The wells will
be developed by purging (by bailing) 4 to 10 casing volumes of groundwater from
each location. Purg;ng will continue until pH, conductivity and temperature have
stabilized After development the wells will be allowed to settle for a minimum of
24 hours before initiating sampling
Prior to sampling, the wells (P-1, P-2, and IVIW-1) will be tested for the presence of
free product by the use of a clear bailer The wells will then be purged until
approximately two to four casing volumes have been removed and the pH,
conductivity and temperature have stabilized The sample will be obtained using a
disposable polyethylene bailers to eliminate the possibility of cross contamination
between wells The samples will be placers in appropriate laboratory supplied
sample containers using system designed to minimize the loss of volatile
components For volatile organic analyses, 40 milliliter sample vials with a teflon
backed silicone septa in an open top lid will be used The sample vials will be filled
completely, avoiding all air bubbles and transported at 4`C to a State certified
analytical laboratory Groundwater will be analyzed for the TPH diesel and BTEX
All purge water will be stored on site in appropriately labeled 55-gallon drums prior
to disposal Water screening for disposal will take place at the time of groundwater
sampling The results of the first set of sampling will be submitted with the report
describing the excavation Monthly monitoring thereafter will be documented in
separate reports.
i
i
5
BRUNSING ASSOCIATES, INC V
