• Deionized water final rinse.
Sample tubes used to collect soil samples will be Ilv a state certified
analytical laboratory. One representative soil sample will be taken for analysis from
each boring at the soil-groundwater interface. Brass sample tubes will be sealed with
aluminum foil, capped, labelled and placed in zip-lock bags. The samples will be
handled as to minimize the loss of volitiles. The samples will be transported in
appropriate containers at 4° C to a state certified laboratory.
Soil Samples will be analyzed for the following:
_Analysis EPA Method
Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons (TPH) diesel 3550
TPH gasoline 5050
Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzenes,
and Xylenes (BTEX) $020
All down hole drilling equipment will be steam cleaned before use and between
borings. Soil cuttings obtained from the drilling will be stored on site with the soils
remaining from excavation until analytical results are available and an appropriate
remediation strategy is found. Borings will be destroyed using a Portland
cement/water grout mix containing not more than S percent bentonite by weight.
4.0 Pian for Determining Groundwater Contamination
One 4" diameter monitoring well will be located as shown on Figure 1, based on a
groundwater gradient directed approximately Nurth and 18"West as established at
the Mobil Oil Distribution Center site located at 500 E. Grantline Road appro, cimately
500 feet to the east. The soil boring located at 1MW-1 will be converted into a four-
inch monitoring well. This location is within ten feet of both excavations and is in
the down gradient direction of the potential source area. The monitoring well will
be constructed in the boring according to LUPI guidelines and will be constructed
with Scnedule 40, flush-joint threaded PVC casing and slotted PVC screen.
Appropriate sand pack will be ylaced :rom beneath the screen to approximately one
to two feet above. The screened interval will be determined by a qualf_ed person on
site but is expected to be from 8 to 18 feet in depth. The well will be sealed with
three feet of hydrated bentonite and grouted to the surface. The well will be covered
with an appropriate monument, capped and locked.
After construction, the monitoring well will be developed by bailing approximately
three casing volumes of water from the well. Groundwater will be monitored for
changes in color, temperature, conductivity, and pH to establish when equilibrium
state has been achieved. All water from the development process will be stored on
site in sealed 55 gallon drums until appropriate disposal can be initiated.
3
o
BRt'NSIN(i ASSOCIATES, INC. 4f®\o®
