r
Site H11c0ry
The property where the above mentioned tanks were located was
purchased by Doane Products from Yandell Trucking Co. who had
the tanks installed in 1963. The tanks were used for fuel
service for the trucking company. After the purchase of the
facilities from Yandell, Doane took the tanks out of commission
In 1985. The tanks were emptied at that time Since 1985 the
tank contents have been accumulated residue from the petroleum
operation and water. The three tanks were removed by Thorpe Oil
Co. in January of 1990.
Leak Estimates
Based upon labortory results obtained by the tank removal firm,
and previously summarized in this report, it is estimated that
the quantity of petroleum product introduced into the
environment Is small. Samples were taken in an area less than
fifty feet in diameter. only one soil sample showed detectable
hydrocarbo,zs and It would be classified as the upgradient
sample. A high water table at this location facilitated
groundwater seepage into the excavation. A grab sample of this
water showed levels consistent with the single contaminated soil
sample. it is highly possible that the spill occured during tank
and line removal. our preliminary estimate of spill volume is
less than 20 gallons.
Site Characteristics
The site Is at an elevation of 35 feet above sea level with a
surface gradient from the southeast to the northwest. Surface
water flow is to the northwest. The Tracy public Works
Department establish the groundwater at 10-13 feet at this
location. Measurements at the time of: tank removal indicated
water at 12 feet. The water Resources Control Board has
identified a northerly flow for groundwater. Domestic water
service for Tracyis supplied by treated canal water and deep
wells. The approximate depth of city water wells is 1000 feet.
The nearest city well is approximately 1.5 miles west of the
Doane facility. There are several private Irrigation wells
within one mile of the facility. Sand problems forced the city
to abandone a well Immediately to the East of this facility.
{ 3
