Neighborhood C RAW Health and Safety Plan <br /> March 20,2007,Revised July 3,2007 <br /> Page 6 <br /> 8.1 EMERGENCY MEDICAL INFORMATION FOR SPECIFIC HAZARDS PRESENT: <br /> 8.1.1 Hazard-Heat stress <br /> This removal action is anticipated to be conducted during relatively dry conditions and hot weather <br /> where precipitation is infrequent during the summer months in Mountain House and historic mean <br /> air high temperatures are documented to be about 75 degrees Fahrenheit (°F). Particular care will <br /> be taken to ensure preventative measures such as frequent breaks in a shaded area and consumption <br /> of adequate amounts of liquids (water and/or electrolyte solutions). Symptoms of acute exposure : <br /> Dizziness,headache,nausea,dryness of the mouth,reduced mental ability,elevated body temperature, <br /> chills,clamminess,and cessation of perspiration. <br /> First Aid - Move person to a shaded, cool area. Wet person down with cool water. Wetting the head and <br /> neck with quantities of cool water will help reduce body temperature. Have person drink cool water. Seek <br /> medical attention for severe cases. <br /> 8.2.1 Hazard-Particulate inhalation <br /> Symptoms of Exposure - Acute: Nose and throat irritation, congestion, coughing, shortness of breath, <br /> asphyxiation. <br /> First Aid-Remove person to fresh air. <br /> 8.3.1 Hazard-Sun burn,eye burn <br /> Symptoms of Exposure-Acute:Pain and discomfort of exposed area,eye irritation,leads to heat stress. <br /> First Aid - Remove person from sunlight, flush effected area with cool, clean water. If a minor skin burn, <br /> apply first aid cream.If severe, seek medical attention. <br /> In all on-site emergency situations,work shall not resume until: <br /> ■ The conditions resulting in the emergency have been corrected. <br /> ■ The hazards have been reassessed. <br /> ■ The Health and Safety Plan has been reviewed. <br /> ■ Site personnel have been briefed on any changes to the Health and Safety Plan. <br /> The Site Safety Officer shall critique the emergency response and follow-up. <br /> 9.0 SANITATION <br /> Sanitary portable restrooms will be placed and maintained on the Site by the contractor for use by <br /> all personnel connected to the removal action. <br /> 9.1 Decontamination <br /> Please refer to Section 7.3.3 of the RAW. All PPE and sampling equipment that comes into contact <br /> with potentially contaminated soil will be decontaminated to control contaminants, assure the <br /> quality of samples collected, and/or to avoid cross contamination. Disposable equipment intended <br /> for one time use will not be decontaminated, but will be containerized for appropriate disposal. <br /> Decontamination will occur prior to and after each designated use of a piece of equipment and/or <br /> when equipment exits the work zone. Sample collection equipment will be decontaminated using the <br /> following procedures: <br />
