Neighborhood C RAW Health and Safety Plan <br /> March 20,2007,Revised July 3,2007 <br /> Page 5 <br /> assume that the operator of a motor vehicle is unable to see you and keep a safe distance from moving <br /> traffic. Keep off roadways, when practical, and away from moving traffic. Approved safety vests will be <br /> worn by all personnel when working in areas of traffic hazard. <br /> 7.0 COMMUNICATION PROCEDURES <br /> The following standard hand signals will be used if and when required. <br /> Hand gripping throat.................Out of air,can't breathe <br /> Grip partner's wrist or <br /> both hands around waist...........Leave area immediately <br /> Hands on top of head................Need assistance <br /> Thumbs up................................OK,I'm all right,I understand <br /> Thumbs down...........................No,negative <br /> 8.0 EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN <br /> On-site personnel will use the following standard emergency procedures. The Site Safety Officer shall be <br /> notified of any on-site emergencies and be responsible for ensuring that the appropriate procedures are <br /> followed. Emergency Procedures should be modified as required for incident. <br /> Personal injur: Upon notification of an injury, the Site Safety Officer will assess the nature of <br /> the injury. If the injury is in the area of the excavation equipment, the equipment shall be shut <br /> down to eliminate running equipment hazards. Equipment will remain shut down until the Site <br /> Safety Officer authorizes work to proceed. If the cause of the injury or loss of the injured person <br /> does not affect the performance of site personnel, operations may continue. <br /> Fire/Explosion: In the event of a fire or explosion on site,the Site Safety Officer or alternate shall <br /> call 911 (the fire department) and all personnel shall be moved to a safe distance from the <br /> involved area. <br /> Personal Protective Equipment Failure: If any site worker experiences a failure or alteration of <br /> protective equipment that affects worker's protection, that person shall immediately proceed to <br /> the nearest staging area to repair or replace the damaged equipment. The person shall not return <br /> to the work area until the protective equipment is repaired or replaced. If the equipment cannot be <br /> repaired or replaced, the worker will proceed to the primary staging area specified by the Site <br /> Safety Officer or leave the site. <br /> Other Equipment Failure: If any other equipment on site fails to operate properly, the Site Safety <br /> Officer shall be notified and then determine the effect of this failure on continuing operations on <br /> site. If the failure affects the safety of personnel or prevents completion of the work plan tasks, all <br /> personnel shall leave the work area until the situation is evaluated and appropriate actions taken. <br />
