5431 Grant Line Road, Banta, California August 2, 1994 <br /> Chevron USA Products Company Page 2 <br /> 2.0 BACKGROUND <br /> The site, located on the northwest corner of Grant Line Road and EI Rancho Road intersection, is <br /> currently owned by Burns Seed Company of Tracy, California The site had operated as a Signal Oil <br /> service station dispensing gasoline prior to 1964 Property activity between 1964 and 1977 Is not known <br /> However a small cafe (Grant Line Lunch) was on site in 1977 Two pumps were still on site In 1977 but <br /> it is not known If they were in operation <br /> In 1978, two 250-gallon USTs and the two pumps were removed In 1985, Al and Ed Petrig purchased <br /> the property, demolished the station and built the current structure, a warehouse and office As part of <br /> the property transaction, three sod borings and one groundwater monitoring well were installed on site <br /> between March and August 1992 Low concentrations of hydrocarbons were noted in samples collected <br /> from the sod borings Hydrocarbons were not detected in MW-1 In December 1993, Groundwater <br /> Technology drilled and sampled two sod borings which were converted to temporary groundwater <br /> monitoring wells (TW-1 and TW-2) Sod samples collected at 10 and 15 feet below ground surface <br /> (SGS) from the temporary well borings were below method detection limits (MDL) for benzene, toluene, <br /> ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX), and total petroleum hydrocarbons-as-gasoline (TPH-G) The <br /> groundwater sample collected from TW-2 contained 55 parts per billion (ppb) TPH-G Groundwater <br /> samples collected from TW-1 and MW-1 were below the MDL for BTEX and TPH-G <br /> Groundwater monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-3 were installed to monitor hydrocarbon concentrations in <br /> groundwater, if any, and to verify and measure the magnitude and direction of the hydraulic gradient of <br /> shallow groundwater beneath the site The locations of MWs-2 and 3 were guided by the results of <br /> groundwater samples collected from TW-1 and TW-2 <br /> 0:1W GROUNDWATER <br /> 0014EAR f9PT(Cnv-4�GRANTIJN) ❑❑❑ TECHNOLOGY <br />
