Chevron USA Products Company Page 3 <br /> 3.0 ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT WORK <br /> 3 1 Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan/Background Review/Permitting <br /> Groundwater Technology prepared a site-specific Health and Safety Plan as required by the <br /> Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Standard 'Hazardous Waste Operations and <br /> Emergency Response' guidelines (29 CFR 1910 120) The Health and Safety Plan was prepared by <br /> Groundwater Technology personnel, following a complete review of site conditions The document was <br /> reviewed and signed by all Groundwater Technology personnel and subcontractors prior to performing <br /> work at the site <br /> Groundwater Technology conducted a technical review of all pertinent information prior to proceeding <br /> with assessment work at the site Groundwater monitoring well installation permits were obtained <br /> through the SJCPHS-EHD (Appendix A) <br /> 32 Soil Borings <br /> On June 21, 1994, Groundwater Technology personnel supervised the drilling of two sod borings to a <br /> depth of approximately 20 feet BGS utilizing a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 8-inch outside- <br /> diameter (O D) hollow-stem augers All drilling equipment was steam cleaned prior to drilling each <br /> boring, and sampling equipment was washed between sampling intervals Steam cleaning water was <br /> contained in a trailer and transferred to Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved 55-gallon drums <br /> for temporary storage on site All sod generated from the borings was placed on and covered with <br /> plastic sheeting pending characterization On July 7, 1994, approximately 0 5 cubic yard of soil was <br /> removed from the site by Integrated Wastestream Management, Inc of Milpitas, California and hauled to <br /> the BFI facility in Livermore, California Water generated by steam cleaning and well development will be <br /> removed from the site when the wells are sampled in July 1994 <br /> 33 Soil Sampling <br /> During drilling, sod samples were collected at 5-foot intervals, beginning at approximately 5 feet (BGS) to <br /> the bottom of each boring Samples were collected using a 2 5-inch O D split-spoon sampler, lined with <br /> three 2-inch-diameter by 6-inch-long brass sample tubes The sampler was driven 18 inches ahead of <br /> the augers at each sample point Soil samples were field screened for hydrocarbon sing a <br /> GROUNDWATER RPT(Chv 4\GRANTIJN) ❑❑❑ TECHNOLOGY <br />
