 4
PREVIOUS WORK
The activities from 2002 through July 2008 were described in correspondence provided
by previous consultants, including IT, Clayton Group Services (Clayton) and Science
Applications Incorporated (SAIC). Subsequent activities were described in
correspondence provided by CRA. The following is a summary of previous work.
June 26, 2002 Investigation Report(Clayton): Describes drilling and sampling activities
for 41 soil borings (B-1 through B-40 and B-42) along the pipeline alignment to generally
define the extent of hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater in specific areas. First
encountered groundwater was observed between 30 and 35 ft bgs and generally
stabilized at approximately 30 to 32 ft bgs. Total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH)
concentrations were noted in the following locations: soil in Boring B-9 in the area of
Trench 2; groundwater and deep soil in the area of Trench 3; and groundwater in
Borings B-20 and B-23 in the area of Trench 4.
December26, 2002 Investigation Report (Clayton): Documents the drilling of 14
additional soil borings (B-43 through B-56; deepest at 40 ft bgs at B-53) that were
advanced to groundwater, and the results for soil and groundwater samples collected in
the area of Trenches 2, 3 and 4. The report indicates that the lateral extent of
hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater appears to be limited to areas immediately
surrounding the former pipeline.
May 5,2003 Investigation Report(Clayton): Documents the drilling of 4 additional soil
borings (B-57 through B-60; deepest at 95 ft bgs at B-58) and the results for soil and
groundwater samples collected in the area of Trenches 2, 3 and 4. Lithology and
groundwater observations were consistent with previous reports. The report indicates
that the vertical extent of soil impact from TPH was defined in Borings B-57 and B-58,
however, vertical delineation in groundwater was not achieved.
July 22, 2003 Additional Delineation Report (Clayton): Documents the drilling of 3
additional soil borings (B-61 through B-63; deepest at 146 ft bgs at B-63) and the results
for groundwater samples collected in the area of Trenches 3 and 4. Lithology and
groundwater observations were consistent with previous reports. The report indicates
that the vertical delineation in groundwater was not achieved.
December 2, 2003 Additional Groundwater Delineation Report (Clayton): Documents
the drilling of 2 additional soil borings (B-64 and B-65; deepest at 140 ft bgs at B-64) and
the results for groundwater samples collected in the area of Trenches 3 and 4.
