r
 a
Working To Restore Nature
tanks 5 and 6 at depths of 30 to 34 feet Analytical results indicated the presence of low levels
of petroleum hydrocarbons (Table 1)
1
Between August 24, 1987 and January 11, 1989, GTI drilled 11 soil bongs (SBI through SBI 1)
rand installed seven groundwater monitoring wells (MW1 through MW7) for the purpose of .
further defining the vertical and lateral extent of soil and groundwater contamination. Soil
boring and monitoring well locations are shown on Figure 2 Soil analytical results are
summarized in Table 1.
1
WaterWork Corporation (WaterWork) was subcontracted by Telic Engineering in 1989 to
continue the subsurface investigation On October 12, 1989, WaterWork dulled four soil
borings (SB12 through SB15) to further assess the site stratigraphy and extent of soil
' contamination. An additional monitoring well (MW8) was installed on January 25, 1991.
Analytical results of soil and groundwater samples collected to date are summarized in Tables
1 and 2, respectively Groundwater monitoring data are summarized in Table 3. Soil boring
and groundwater monitoring well locations are shown on Figure 2 Welllbormg logs are
rincluded in Appendix I.
' 5.0 INTERIM REMEDIATION AND EVALUATION
1 Excavation Activities
rIn January 1990, approximately 3,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil was excavated from
beneath the former underground fuel storage tanks. Excavation proceeded to a depth of
approximately 35 to 40 feet below grade. Confirmation soil samples collected from the
' excavation floor (January 3, 1990) indicated residual petroleum hydrocarbons remained in place
at depths below 35 feet Confirmation samples collected from the excavation sidewalls
' (September 19, 1990) indicated that the lateral limits of soil contamination had been removed.
Soil analytical results are summarized in Table 1 Soil sample locations are shown on Figure
' 4
15M81xEP0M\C"-0744 DRF 4
1
