1
Working To Restore Nature
Excavated soils were stockpiled onsite and aerated under the authorization of the San Joaquin
County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) Aerated soils were confirmed clean through
laboratory analyses and subsequently backfilled into the excavation under the authorization of
the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
.2 Groundwater Pumping Test
' A pumping test was performed on the shallow aquifer beneath the site on December 16 and 17,
1993. The objective of testing was to assess the hydrologic parameters at the site as an aid in
the evaluation of possible remedial options
rThe testing program consisted of three separate elements designed to provide complimentary
information. The first element consisted of static groundwater monitoring to establish initial
conditions and to help in the evaluation of water level changes observed during pumping. The
second element of the test program consisted of a step-drawdown test of well MW-4, designed
to provide data on well efficiency and to select an appropriate pumping rate for the longer term
tests. The third element of the program consisted of conducting a constant rate pumping test on
well MW-4 to estimate aquifer transmissivity.
' The pumping well was outfitted with a 2-inch submersible pump which was plumbed through
a gate valve and flowmeter The flowmeter calibration was verified by manual flow
measurement. The discharge rate was controlled and recorded manually. Extracted water was
1 pumped into the sanitary sewer in accordance with a temporary discharge permit issued by the
City of Stockton. Drawdown in the pumping well and in peripheral observation wells was
' measured using a Sol nst water level probe and recorded manually. Pumping test logs are
included in Appendix H.
5.2.1
Static Water Levels
' Static water levels in monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-8 were measured on December 16
and 17, 1993 prior to initiating the pumping tests
I5003SUMPORMCAP-0794 DRF 5
