Woodward-Clyde
Soil boring B-3 was advanced to a depth of 43 feet bgs located within the north end of the
former UST backfilled excavation (Figure 4). Since the first 18 feet of B-3 was.advanced
through tank excavation backfill material, no samples were collected from surface to 16 feet
bgs. Soil samples were collected at 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 29, 34, 39, and 41 feet bgs. Soil
samples selected for chemical analysis were collected from 17.5 to 18, 21.5 to 22, 25.5 to
. 26, 30.5 to 31, 35.5 to 36, 40.5 to 41, and 42.5 to 43 feet bgs. Elevated headspace readings
were observed in all of the sample intervals of boring B-3. The VOC headspace
measurements ranged from 2 to 18 parts per million (ppm). No free product was observed
in any of the sample drive intervals from B-3. Soil staining was observed in sample interval
20 to 22, and 22 to 24.
V
Based on the VOC headspace readings and the presence of visible soil staining Ms. Diane
M. Hinson (SJCEHD) agreed with WCFS recommendation to further assess the lateral extent
of soil contamination at the site. Ms. Hinson approved the field investigation plan involving
— additional borings and collection of one groundwater sample from below the site. On May
26, 1995 two additional borings (B-4 and B-5) were advanced south-southwest and northwest
of the former UST excavation respectively.
Soil boring B-4 was advanced to a depth of 31 feet bgs located southwest of the former UST
V
excavation. Soil samples were collected at 2, 8, 11, 16, 20, 25, and 29 feet bgs. Soil
samples for chemical analysis were collected from 9.5 to 10, 17.5 to 18, 21.5 to 22, and
26.5 to 27 feet bgs. No visible contamination, or elevated headspace readings were observed
during the advancement of B-4.
V
Soil boring B-5 was advanced to a depth of 31 feet bgs located northwest of the former UST
-. excavation. Soil samples were collected at 2, 5, 10, 16, 19, 24, and 29 feet bgs. Soil
samples for chemical analysis were collected from 3.5 to 4, 6.5 to 7, 17.5 to 18, 20.5 to 21,
25.5 to 26, and 30.5 to 31 feet bgs. No visible contamination, or elevated headspace
readings were observed during the sample drive intervals, except at the 16 to 18 feet bgs.
Low level headspace reading of 3 ppm was measured for the 16 to 18 feet bgs interval. A
V
summary of analytical results of soil samples collected from soil borings B-1 through B-7
is presented in Table 2.
V
V
8054/FEMAWAXPMR.RP1'/8-24-95 SAC 2-4
V
