Woodward-Clyde
V
V
2.1.2 Phase lI Direct Push Technology Soil Borings and Groundwater Sampling
`r On June 1, 1995, WCFS directed the advancement of two additional soil borings to assess
the lateral extent of soil contamination observed in boring B-5 and to collect one groundwater
sample downgradient from the former UST and soil boring B-3. The Phase II soil sampling
was conducted as described above in Section 2.1.1. Soil borings B-6 and B-7 located
northwest and east of the former UST excavation (Figure 4) respectively, were advanced to
depths of 26 feet and 100 feet bgs respectively. One groundwater sample (MW-7) was
collected from soil boring B-7.
Groundwater samples are collected by DPT methods using an expendable point equipped
`r probe rod driven below the water table and then the open bore of the probe rod is exposed
to the groundwater. The rod is allowed to fill with formation water. Tubing with a bottom
check valve is inserted down the bore of the probe rod. The inner tubing is oscillated up and
down in rapid strokes to produce a momentum pumping action. The groundwater sample
. is then placed in the appropriate containers provided by the laboratory. The containers are
then labeled with sample number, date, time, project number, and placed on ice in an ice
chest until transported under chain of custody procedures to a California State certified
analytical laboratory. Groundwater samples collected at the KJAX site were analyzed for
TPH as gasoline and TPH as diesel using modified EPA Method 8015, and BTEX using
V
EPA Method 8020.
Soil boring B-6 was advanced to a depth of 26 feet bgs located north-northwest of boring B-5
and northwest of the former UST excavation (Figure 4). Soil samples were collected at 5,
10, 15, 17, 20, and 24 feet bgs. Soil samples for chemical analysis were collected from
16.5 to 17, 18.5 to 19, 21.5 to 22, and 25.5 to 26 feet bgs. No visible contamination, or
elevated headspace readings were observed during the advancement of B-6.
Soil boring B-7 was advanced with the Geoprobe DPT to a depth of 100 feet bgs located east
of the former UST excavation and 14 feet east of boring B-3 (Figure 4). Soil samples were
collected at 5, 10, 15, 17, 20, 24, 29, 34, 39, 44, 49, 54, 59, and 64 feet bgs. Soil
samples for chemical analysis were collected from 16.5 to 17, 18 to 18.5, 21 to 21.5, and
25 to 25.5 feet bgs. No visible contamination, or elevated headspace readings were observed
V
8054/PEMAMAXPIER.M/8-24-95 SAC 2-5
V
