Box 2007
Stockton, CA 95201-2007
NOTICE OF VIOLATION
WATER CODE SECTION 13267 REQUEST FOR REPORT
WEST COAST TOMATO OF CALIFORNIA,STOCKTON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs) Order No. 95-158 was adopted by the Regional Board on
23 June 1995 for West Coast Tomato of California. The WDRs address wastewater disposal to a 1.4 acre
land application area. This letter describes a 31 October 2000 site inspection and also addresses the lack
of submitted self-monitoring reports..,Photographs taken during the inspection are enclosed.
Site Inspection
The following observations were noted during the site inspection:
• West Coast Tomato was not packing tomatoes on the date of the inspection.
• West Coast Tomato packs whole tomatoes.
• Wastewater generated at the site consists mostly of flume (transport) water and rinse water.
• The flume water is chlorinated using sodium hypochlorite; the water is dechlorinated using sodium
bisulfate prior to discharge.
• At the time of the inspection, most of the land application area was covered with gravel. Because
of the recent rainfall, standing water covered a small portion of the application area.
• Wastewater is applied by sprinklers that are either attached to the property fencing or are mounted
on movable sprinkler heads on tripod stands.
• There were no offensive odors noted at the site.
• The application area was not fiilly bermed to prevent wastewater runoff.
• An erosion gully was observed at the fence line between the lumber yard and the application area.
• The septic tank location was covered with surface water. The location of the leachlines was
unknown.
California Environmental Protection Agency
Recycled Paper
