As we discussed, Ultramar will install 16-inch PVC conductor
casings.in selected locations within the UST area at the above-referenced
Ultramar facility. _The casings will allow drilling activities to be conducted in the
UST area to assess the vertical extent of gasoline hydrocarbon impacted soil. In
addition to the casings, we propose to_install water, electrical;and air PVC
conduits to five of the casings to allow for vapor/ground-water extraction and
air sparging if remediation becomes necessary. Installation of remediation
equipment is not proposed at this time.
The casings will be located in the UST area as depicted on the enclosed drawing.
A total of ten casings are proposed. Five of the casings will be used for
assessment borings and possible remediation equipment, and five casing will be
used for confirmation borings at a later date. A well box will be installed to the
east of the west fuel islands. This box will allow for drilling activity to assess the
lateral extent of impacted soil east of the UST area. No casing will be installed in
this box. Due to the installation of the west canopy over the east ends of the
former UST's, it will be necessary to perform drilling activities in this area
during the UST replacement project. A detailed workplan outlining all of the
proposed drilling activity is being prepared and will be delivered to you for
your review.
To accommodate the contractor's schedule for the UST project, it will be _
necessary to perform the drilling activities by July 10, 1996. Therefore, the
workplan will be delivered to you, by June 20, 7.996. Upon your review of the'
workplan, please provide a response by June 27, 1996.
BEACON
A Member of the Ultramar Group of Companies #1 Quality and Service
