Former Beacon StatiAo. 3641 February 12, 2013
Stockton California Well Destruction Report
Well Destruction Fieldwork
Horizon witnessed AWA conduct well destruction fieldwork from January 28 to February 1,
2013. Inspector Mr. Johnny Yoakum observed well destruction operations on behalf of the
EHD. The following wells were destroyed by the pressure grouting method: triple-
completion well MWANW-112, double-completion wells VW-314, VW-516, VW-718, and
single-completion wells SW-1, MW-5, MW-6, MW-7, MW-9 and MW-I 1. Wells MW-2,
MW-3, MW-4, MW-10, MW-12, MW-13 and MW-14 were destroyed by over-drilling to
total depth of the well and backfilling the bore hole with neat cement. The calculated
volumes of grout required to fill the bore holes, and the actual emplaced grout volumes are
summarized in the enclosed table.
In the pressure grouting method, neat cement was pumped into the well casings via tremie
set within three feet of the total depth of the well casings. For wells within the UST basin,
the grout level was brought to the top of well casing. For the other wells, the grout level was
brought to within 5 feet of the surface. The casings were then air pressurized to 25 pounds
per square inch for approximate 10 minutes and the grout was topped off until stabilized.
For wells outside the UST basin, the top 3 feet of the well materials were drilled out with the
same size auger as the original borehole. The bore hole was then enlarged to approximately
one foot greater than the initial borehole to expose approximately 6 inches of the casing.
Neat cement grout was emplaced in the exposed casing and bore hole to a depth of
approximately 1 foot. The calculated volumes of grout required to fill the wells, and the
actual emplaced grout volumes are summarized in the enclosed table.
With the exception of the wells destroyed in the existing UST basin area, well boxes were
removed and the immediate surrounding surface was restored to match pre-existing
conditions. The upper foot of former wells located in landscaped areas were backfilled with
soil and landscape material.
Contact Horizon at 916-939-2170 if you have any questions or require additional
information.
Sincerely, I_ -
HORIZON NVIRONMENTAL INC. ;"
LQ)
.w S
Rexford Smith, P.G.
