HARLAN ROAD, FRENCH CAMP, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Thank you for meeting with me, along with Linda Huff of Huff&Huff Inc. and James Wells of Haley&
Aldrich, Inc. at the French Camp Grain Elevator facility(site). During the site walk, we observed
locations of site structures including grain storage silos, grain loading and unloading racks, monitoring
wells and soil vapor sampling locations. Below is a summary of our discussion.
1. Carbon tetrachloride was used on site prior to 1985 as a fumigant for wheat, as required by the
federal government for surplus storage.
2. Railroad tracks border the site to the east. Monitoring'well MW-2B, installed in the deep water
bearing zone on the east side of the property, has low concentrations of carbon tetrachloride and
chloroform. The next step-out location would be approximately 200 feet upgradient because of
the railroad tracks.
3. Lithology from CPT-06 indicates there is only a fine grain interval in the shallow zone
upgradient from monitoring well MW-2A,which is why(fhe shallow water-bearing zone is not
delineated upgradient.
t
4. Carbon tetrachloride and chloroform plumes downgradient of monitoring wells MW-413,MW-
5A, and MW-5B need to be delineated. The next possible step out location is west of Harlan
Road. ContiGroup was previously denied access to this property. ContiGroup will attempt to
gain access to this property again.
5. Monitoring well MW-8B is the only off-site well and delineates the contaminant plume to the
north.
California Environmental Protection Agency
0 Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
