The site is currently occupied by Inland Paint Company. One 1,000-gallon
underground storage tank was located on site in back of the building. In March 1990, the storage
tank, all associated piping, and fuel dispensers were removed from the ground and disposed of off
site. Soil samples were collected from beneath the underground storage tank. Laboratory
analysis of-the samples indicated that the soil was contaminated with gasoline. The hole where '
the tank was located was filled up with dirt.
RECENT SITE WORK
On January 8, 1998, ATC Associates drilled one soil boring to 41.5 feet -below ground surface
(bgs). Soil samples were collected and analyzed by a laboratory. The results of the analysis
indicated the soil was contaminated with gasoline. Most of the contaminated soil was in the top
' ten feet of dirt. The soil loWer than ten feet was significantly less contaminated. When
groundwater was encountered, at approximately 40 feet bgs, a groundwater sample was collected
and analyzed by a laboratory. The results of the analysis indicated the groundwater was
contaminated with gasoline. After all samples had been collected, the hole was filled to the
' surface with neat cement.
REMEDIATION PLAN
I To try and cleanup the majority of the contaminated soil, ATC proposes to excavate the soil in the
area where the underground storage tank used to be located. The top ten feet of soil will be dug
up and any soil that is visibly contaminated will also be dug-up. The contaminated soil will be dug
up and transported the same day it is excavated to an appropriate off site disposal facility
I' (landfill). The hole will then be filled up with clean soil and compacted. All work will be
completed in.one day. By removing the majority of the contaminated soil, we will help prevent
the groundwater from_getting more contaminated.
r
' E
f
k
I
I
