0 0
hydrocarbons, such as soil staining, obvious product odor, and PID (or similar instrument)
readings, will be noted in the field on the logs of borings
Vapor Extraction Well Construction
The vapor extraction well will be constructed in the boring with thread pointed,
4-inch-inner-diameter, Schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) casing No cheirucal cements,
glues, or solvents will be used in well construction The screened portion of the well consist of 5
to 10 feet of factory perforated casing with 0 10-inch-wide slots The annular spaces in the wells
will be packed with pea gravel to approximately 1 to 2 feet above the slotted interval A 3-foot-
thick bentomte plug was added above the filter pack to prevent the cement from entering the well
pack The remaining annulus was backfilled to grade with a bentonite cement slurry
The well is protected with a traffic-rated, cast-alununum utility box equipped with a PVC skirt
The box has a watertight seal to protect against surface water infiltration and must be opened
with a special wrench The design of this box discourages vandalism and reduces the possibility
of accidental disturbance of the well
Groundwater Monitoring-Well Construction
. The groundwater monitoring wells will be constructed in the borings with thread-jointed,
4-inch-inner-diameter, Schedule 40 PVC casing No chemical cements, glues, or solvents will be
used in well construction The screened portion of the wells will consist of factory-perforated
casing with 0 020-inch-wide slots The annular space in the wells will be packed with no 3
Lonestar sand to approximately 1 to 2 feet above the slotted interval A 3-foot-thick bentonite
plug will be added above the sand pack to prevent the cement from entering the well pack The
remaining annulus will be backfilled to grade with a bentonite cement slurry
The wells will be protected with a traffic-rated, cast-aluminum utility box equipped with a PVC
skirt The box has a watertight seal to protect against surface-water infiltration and must be
opened with a special wrench The design of this box discourages vandalism and reduces the
possibility of accidental disturbance of the well
Well Development
EMCON will watt a minimum of 24 hours after well installation before developing the
groundwater monitoring well to allow the grout to seal The well will be developed with a surge
block and pump Well development will continue until the discharge water is clear of silt and
sand Clay-size sediments derived from the screened portion of the formation cannot be entirely
eliminated by well development After the well stabiltzes for a minimum of 24 hours, it will be
purged of stagnant water and a sample collected for laboratory analysis
l
SAC\N 1P701080W8051400 3AS-95 wpt 3 3 Rev 0 10/3/95
