(Stratus) on your
behalf for the above-referenced subject site. In the work plan, Stratus proposes to
perform a ninety-day pilot test to determine whether ozone/hydrogen peroxide (03/H2O2)
injection will reduce the concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination at your
site and assess what affect, if any, this process will have on groundwater quality.
The EHD approves the work plan that includes the installation of four proposed nested
03/1-12O2 injection wells (IW-1 through IW-4) and one proposed monitoring well (MW-7) at
locations illustrated on Figure 3 of the work plan. Each of the four 03/H2O2 wells will
contain two sparge points, one with a gas diffuser for 03 sparging installed from
approximately twenty-one to twenty-three feet below ground surface (bgs), and one with
a stainless steel slotted well screen for H2O2 injection installed from approximately
eighteen to nineteen feet bgs. The proposed monitoring well (MW-7) will be screened
from approximately ten to twenty-five feet bgs.
During the initial thirty days of the pilot test, Stratus proposes to inject only 03 into the
four 03/H2O2 wells in fifteen-minute cycles continuously for twenty-four hours per day.
Based on the field conditions and preliminary results from the first month's pilot test,
Stratus proposes to possibly increase the 03 injection cycles to twenty minutes during
the second and third months. Stratus proposes to commence injecting H2O2 beginning
the second month and continuing the H2O2 injections through the third month. Stratus
estimates that approximately thirty-one to forty-five pounds of 03 and approximately one
hundred-fourteen gallons of H2O2 will be injected into the groundwater over the course of
the ninety-day pilot test.
