Prior to, during, and following the ninety-day pilot test, Stratus proposes to monitor the
natural changes in groundwater geochemistry utilizing monitoring well MW-3; gauge the
effectiveness of 03/H2O2 injection for reducing concentrations of dissolved petroleum
hydrocarbon contaminants; monitor potential changes in groundwater geochemistry
utilizing MW-1, MW-2 and MW-5; monitor for the breakdown and byproducts of 03/H2O2
injection down-gradient of the expected treatment area from proposed well MW-7; and
estimate the zone of influence from MW-4.
Stratus proposes to analyze the groundwater samples collected from the six wells
(MW-1 through MW-5 and MW-7) for gasoline range organics (GRO); benzene, toluene,
ethyl benzene, and total xylenes, (BTEX); methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary-
butyl alcohol (TBA), total dissolved metals (arsenic, beryllium, calcium, cadmium,
chromium, chromium VI, cobalt, copper, total and dissolved iron, mercury, magnesium,
manganese, molybdenum, nickel, sodium, lead, antimony, thallium, vanadium, tungsten,
and zinc), selenium, chlorine, fluorine, phosphorus, bromate, and total dissolved solids
(TDS). In addition to the above please analyze the groundwater samples for pH,
bromide, chemical oxygen demand (COD), oxidation reduction potential, total organic
carbon (TOC), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl
methyl ether (TAME), acetone, silver, aluminum, barium, potassium, ammonia, nitrogen,
nitrate, nitrite, orthophosphate, sulfide, sulfate, chloride, and fluoride.
Contact the California Regional Water Quality Control Board Central Valley Region
(CRWQCBCVR) for pre-approval to perform a pilot-scale test without first performing a
bench-scale test, and apply for the general permit from the CRWQCBCVR. Then submit
a well permit application and permit/inspection fee of $434 per parcel to the EHD at 600
East Main Street (instead of 304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor) Stockton, California
95202; include a copy of the access agreement to install MW-7 off-site; notify the EHD at
least a week prior to the scheduled fieldwork, and complete the well installations by 01
October 2010. Please note that there will be a County fee increase effective 01 August
2010.
