i
Corporation
A Member oI The IT Group
Ms. Margaret Lagorio Project 880-040.1A
March 15, 2000
Page 3
collected from the bottom and sidewalls of the excavated areas under D-1 and D-8. Soil
at the locations of D-3 and D-5 was excavated to approximately 4.5 and 5 feet bgs,
respectively. Soil sample locations, analytical results, and the extent of excavation for
this event are shown on Figure 3. Analytical results are summarized on Tables 2 and 3
and CABs are presented in Appendix B.
STOCKPILED SOIL CHARACTERIZATION
Four samples were collected from stockpiles generated during product line removal.
Clean excavated material was used as backfill. Approximate locations of stockpiles
from product line sampling are shown on Figure 4. Soil sample designations, collection
dates, and the results of laboratory analyses performed on these samples are summarized
in Table 1. Soils generated during the excavation activities were stockpiled on the
adjacent parcel. One four part composite sample was collected from ever-excavated soil
piles for disposal characterization. Over-excavation stockpile soil sample results are
included in Table 2.
SOIL DISPOSAL
Wendt Construction transported a total of approximately 262 tons of petroleum
hydrocarbon stockpiled soil offsite for disposal at the Forward Landfill in
Manteca, California.
FINDINGS
• Over-excavation activities removed approximately 262 tons of petroleum
hydrocarbon impacted soil.
• Four piping samples contained TPHG at concentrations ranging from 4.19 (P-5)
to 208 mg/kg (P-1). The area beneath P-1 was overexcavated during D-1
overexcavation activities.
• Benzene was detected in 3 piping soil samples at concentrations of 0.015a (P-5)
and 0.0272 (P-6) mg/kg.
e MTBE was detected in 6 piping samples at concentrations ranging from
2.33 (P-3) to 49.4 (P-5)mg/kg.
IT CORPORATION
SAC:\\\SAC RFP 1\COMMON\rancfp 1\Projects\Projects\880\040\8800401 A.as.doc-Mmem:I
