Attachment B <br /> Drilling and Sampling Procedures <br /> The procedures that were used for drilling the borings and collecting soil samples are presented <br /> below <br /> • General safety procedures were reviewed with the field investigation staff and <br /> subcontractors prior to commencement of field activities <br /> • Monitoring well installation permits were obtained from San Joaquin County <br /> Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) <br /> Drilling Procedures <br /> • Two borings were advanced to a depth of 25 feet below ground surface (BGS) and <br /> one deep boring was advanced to a depth of approximately 55 feet BGS Borings <br /> were drilled using hollow stem auger equipment <br /> • Augers and drilling equipment were washed prior to drilling each boring <br /> • Soil descriptions, sample type and depth, and related drilling information were <br /> recorded on a boring log under the supervision of a State-registered geologist <br /> Soil Sampling Procedures <br /> C Borings were sampled at 5 feet BGS and then in 5-foot increments until total depth <br /> • The drilling and sampling equipment was washed in a detergent rinse, two clear <br /> water rinses, and a final de>onizedldistilled water rinse prior to drilling The <br /> equipment was air-dried or dried using paper towels <br /> • Soil samples were collected in six-inch long, stainless steel or brass sample tubes <br /> inserted inside the samplers The sample tubes were either pre-washed by the <br /> supplier or washed using a bristle brush with a detergent rinse followed by two <br /> clear water rinses and a final deionized/distilled water rinse The sample tubes <br /> were dry before use <br /> • Samplers were driven using a 140-pound hammer dropping approximately <br /> 30 inches The number of blows (blow count) required to advance the sampler <br /> 12 inches was recorded on the boring log <br /> I • Following retrieval of the sampler, the first (lowest) sample tube was removed from <br /> the sampler, the ends covered with Teflon film, and capped with PVC end caps <br /> 1 <br /> Nlrancfp1TrojectsTrojects18801040UxWI!01Assessmentand Interim Remedial Report doc <br /> s� B-1 <br />
