•
•
•
•
•
• SECTION 4.0
• Activities Completed during the Reporting
• Period
•
•
•
• This section describes activities completed during the current reporting period;
groundwater sampling;annual tree survey;10-year evaluation soil sampling;and former
• bagging plan investigation soil and groundwater sampling. Operations and maintenance
• activities (e.g.,tree pruning and maintaining the irrigation system) are performed on a
• regular basis, but are not routinely reported unless the activities could affect the
performance of phytoremediation. The objectives of the activities completed during the
• reporting period were as follows:
• • To collect groundwater samples to evaluate the effectiveness of phytoremediation in
• removing nitrogen from groundwater
• • To evaluate the overall health of the planting areas
• . To collect soil samples to evaluate the effectiveness of phytoremediation in removing
• nitrogen from soil
• • To collect soil and groundwater samples at the former bagging plant,to evaluate if a
• nitrate source area exists around monitoring well KP-3 and to define its extent
• 4.1 Groundwater Sampling
•
• As specified in MRP No.R5-2004-0835 (Water Board,2004b),semiannual groundwater
sampling of newly installed wells will be conducted for the first year after well installation,-
thus
nstallation;thus a semiannual groundwater sampling event was performed on March 4,2011.Depth to
• groundwater was measured at all monitoring wells and samples were collected from the
• wells installed in 2010 (KP-10S-R and KP-4D).The annual groundwater sampling event was
performed on August 9 to 11,in accordance with MRP No.R5-2004-0835 (Water Board,
• 2004b).Monitoring wells KP-7S,KP-7D,and KP-9S were not located during the annual
• event because they were covered with 2 to 9 inches of road base, despite searching for them
• using two metal detectors.Monitoring well KP-8S was not able to be accessed because it
was behind a locked gate. These four wells are located west of the site on the property
• owned by the Port of Stockton.During the next sampling event, survey stakes will be
• considered for the monitoring wells located in the Port of Stockton area in an attempt to
protect them from heavy equipment traffic and regular grading of the ground surface. In
• addition,a global positioning system unit may be used to aid in locating monitoring wells
• that are covered by road base.
• As part of the annual groundwater sampling event, monitoring well KP-3 was video
• surveyed;the video survey is presented in Appendix F. The results of the semiannual and
annual groundwater monitoring events are presented in Section 5.The semiannual and
• annual groundwater field reports are presented in Appendix C.
•
• RDD1112370001(CAH5003.DOCx) 4-1
•
•
•
