6.1 Hazard Assessment
Exposure limit data are expressed as time weighted averages *(TWA) or ceiling
limits. TWAs promulgated in OSHA regulations are referred to as permissible
exposure limits (PELs). TWAs found in NIOSH publications are recommended
exposure limits (RELs). The American Conference of Governmental and
Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) adopts values for exposure limits referred to as
threshold limit values (TLVs). ACGIH further divides TI-Vs into TWAs, ceiling
limits, and short-term exposure limits (STELs). The exposure limits for the
chemicals found in the work area, that the workers may come in contact, are
given in Table 1.
The exposure routes, exposure limits, symptoms from exposure, and the
concentrations that are immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH) for
chemicals, which may occur in the work area, are listed in Table 1.
Activities at the site will be conducted in open, non-confined areas and will not
require air monitoring for oxygen and combustible gas levels.
The potential for injuries inherent in operating heavy equipment represents
another hazard, especially because operators may be wearing restrictive
clothing. The use of heavy equipment creates the potential for contact with
overhead electric lines and underground utility lines. Underground utility lines
will be located and avoided. Underground Service Alert (USA) will be
contacted at least two working days prior to the initiation or work activities.
Additionally, the minimum safe distances from overhead utility lines, as
specified in 8CCR2946 will be followed.
If an accident occurs, the nearest medical assistance will be sought as specified
in the section entitled Contingency Plan and Emergency Procedures.
6.2 Contaminant/Waste Characteristics:
General Forms: ❑ Solid ® Liquid ® Gas/Vapor
Chemical of Concern:
Gasoline Benzene and MTBE:
Based on the subject property's history, levels are extreemly low.
Hazard Determination: LOW
py Avalon Environmental Consultants 9627-001-6
Kashmar Singh Joes Truck Plaza
January 9, 2001 7 Lathrop,Cal ifomia
