U
• Performing air monitoring with approved instruments in accordance with
requirements stated in this Health and Safety Plan.
Other Project Field Staff:
Responsibilities include:
• Adherence to this HASP during all field activities.
• Communicating its requirements to subcontractors and ensuring their
compliance.,
• Informing the FSS and the project manager of any health or safety related
questions or issues that arise in the course of the field work.
Subcontractors:
Responsibilities include:
• Adherence to this HASP during all field activities or to more stringent
requirements imposed by their own guidelines.
• Submission of documentation for training, medical surveillance and
respirator fit testing requirements to the FSS prior to initiation of on-site
activities.
i
6.0 EXPOSURE TO TOXIC SUBSTANCES
The primary constituents of concern in the surface soil at the work area is Gasoline,
Benzene, and MTBE.
Personnel performing grading activities may be handling equipment that contacts soil.
It is not anticipated that they will be exposed to any liquid residue, since none was
found in the contaminated soil in the work area. Additionally, it is not anticipated that
workers will be exposed to any other significant VOCs, however, monitoring for the
VOC's found as very minor constituents in the subsurface, will be performed. These
workers also may be exposed to airborne dust that may contain some hazardous
materials. To protect these workers from skin contact and breathing vapors and dust,
they may be required to use Level C protection as described in the Personal Protective
Equipment section of this plan. Work will be initiated in Level D after screening
ambient background concentrations with a dust meter and Photoionization detector
(PID).
Avalon Environmental Consultants 9627-001-6
Kashmar Singh Joes Truck Plaza
January 9, 2001 6 Lathrop, California
- _ J
