U U <br /> (3) Examine cartridges and ensure that they are the correct type for the <br /> intended use, that the expiration date has not passed, and that they have <br /> not been opened or used previously. <br /> (4) Check face shields for cracks or fogginess. <br /> B. Loosen all harness strap adjustments. <br /> C. Place chin in chin cup and draw back evenly on strap adjustments - the two <br /> bottom straps first, then the two top straps, and the center top strap last. <br /> D. Check that the respirator is centered evenly on the face and that the straps are <br /> not uncomfortably tight. <br /> E. Check for leaks or proper facial seals. <br /> (1) To conduct a negative-pressure test, close the inlet part with the palm of <br /> the hand so it does not pass air, and gently inhale for about 10 seconds. <br /> Any inward rush of air indicates a poor fit. Note that a leaking facepiece <br /> may be drawn tightly to the face to form a good seal, givingla false <br /> indication of adequate fit. <br /> (2) To conduct a positive-pressure test, gently exhale while covering the <br /> exhalation valve to ensure that a positive pressure can be built up. <br /> Failure to build a positive pressure indicates a poor fit. <br /> 7. Put on the-rest of the gear in the following order: <br /> A. Raise hood. <br /> B. Hardhat. <br /> C. Surgical gloves. <br /> D. Outer gloves. <br /> E. Connect gloves and suit with tape. <br /> 8. Select a buddy to act as a safety backup. <br /> 9. Check your buddy's equipment and have your buddy check yours for rips, tears or <br /> malfunctions.
