the soil-filled liners will be recovered from the sampler, and boring advancement and sampling
will be proceeded as described until the terminal depth is reached.
The central liner will be capped on either end with Teflon tape and plastic caps. The capped liner
will be labeled for identification and stored in an iced cooler. Soil samples for VOC analysis (see
Section 5.3.4 below) will be preserved via EPA Method 5035 per laboratory instructions, which
includes preservation with methanol and sodium bisulfate.
Remaining soil within the liners will be visually inspected for discoloration, monitored for odors,
classified in general accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), placed in
sealable bags, and field-screened with a photoionization detector (PID) calibrated to isobutylene.
5.3.2 Direct-Push Borings
Borings B12, B13 and 1314 will be advanced to a total depth of 15 feet bgs using a direct-push drill
rig. In lieu of observed impacts, soil samples will be collected from borings 1312, B13 and B14 at
depths of 5, 10 and 15 feet bgs using a five-foot long by two-inch diameter sampling barrel with
a five-foot long acetate liner, which will be advanced by the direct-push drill rig using five-foot
long drill rods. The sampler will be driven into the subsurface to allow undisturbed soil to enter
the open sampling barrel and retrieved in five-foot intervals to recover the soil-filled liners.
Samples will be prepared for laboratory analysis by cutting an approximately six-inch long section
of the liner using a hacksaw and capped on either end with Teflon tape and plastic caps. The
capped liners will be labeled for identification and stored in an iced cooler. The soil in the upper
half of the liner will be visually inspected for discoloration, monitored for odors, classified in
accordance with the USCS, placed in a sealable plastic bag, and field-screened with a PID
calibrated to isobutylene. Soil samples for VOC analysis will be preserved via EPA Method 5035
per laboratory instructions, which includes preservation with methanol and sodium bisulfate.
5.3.4 Proposed Soil Sample Analysis
Up to 15 soil samples (seven per boring) will be collected from borings MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3
before the installation of the monitoring wells. Up to two soil samples from each boring will be
selected for laboratory analysis based on field observations and at areas where photoionization
detection (PID) readings are elevated above background. The selected soil samples will be
Additional Site Assessment Work Plan
Heliostockton Property
434 Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.Boulevard
Stockton,California
Partner Project Number SM17-191672
RWQCB Case#:392004
January 9,2018
Page 10
