3.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY
Health and safety aspects for both the excavation personnel and the plant
workers will be covered by the Site Specific Health and Safety Plan contained in
Appendix A. As a minimum guideline, the Plan addresses the following elements:
3.1 Excavation Personnel
For the excavation personnel actively involved in the earth moving process,
Level B personal protection will be required which will consist of supplied air
systems, rubber boots, gloves, tyvek disposable coveralls and hard hat. This level
of protection is appropriate to prevent exposure from dust which may carry
' residues of the fumigant compounds and air emissions which may evolve from the
disturbed earth.
As exposure to the fumigants must be prevented, full hazardous waste
operations access control procedures will be utilized.
A. A worko
z ne/exclusion zone will be designated in the immediate area of the
excavation where full protection equipment as previously specified will be
required.
B. A separate contamination reduction action zone will be set up to provide an area
' for personnel to change out of Level B equipment.
C. All unauthorized personnel will be prevented from entering the work zone
from the time the excavation is started until the confirmation soil sampling
' analysis results are received indicating the objective soil concentration
levels have been achieved.
1 9
