.r
compacted and brought to grade. Backfilling was completed on September 14, 1995. The
soil which had been placed in a temporary stockpile at Forward Landfill was subsequently
disposed of in the Class II portion of that facility.
r
The CARs and chain-of-custody documentation for the excavation samples are included in
Appendix B. Appendix C contains the soil disposal information. Table 1 summarizes the
analytical results.
4.0 RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS
Soil samples collected at depths of 17.5 to 20.5 feet from borings CE-1, CE-2, and CE-4 did
not contain detectable concentrations of VOCs. The soil sample collected at a depth of 4 feet
too from boring CE-3, drilled in the area of the former pipeline, was reported to contain acetone
(0.140 mg/kg), benzene (0.017 mg/kg), and 2-butanone (0.025 mg/kg). Based on the PRGs
for residential sites, these VOC concentrations were not likely to pose an unacceptable health
risk. Nevertheless, Universal-Rundle Corporation elected to excavate the soil in the vicinity of
boring CE-3 and dispose of if at Forward Landfill. Soil samples collected from the base and
four sidewalls of the pipeline area excavation did not contain detectable concentrations of
VOCs. The excavation was subsequently backfilled with clean, imported fill which was
compacted.
Soil samples from recent borings indicate that the VOCs previously reported in the former tank
and pipeline area are no longer detected in this area.
L
r
V
r
r
r
r
r
CYPRESS
Universal-Rundle Corporation Page 6
r
