This workplan is based on the results of soil
sampling conducted at the site on July 25, 1995, and discussions with Mr. Steve Sasson
on August 2 and 3, 1995. The following sections summarize the results of the recent soil
sampling event and present the proposed scope of work.
RESULTS OF JULY 1995 SAMPLING EVENT
In accordance with Cypress Environmental's June 23, 1995 Revised Workplan for Soil
Sampling at Former Acetone Tanks Area, four soil borings were drilled on July 25, 1995
in the area of the former acetone tanks and pipeline (see Figure 2). Borings CE-1 and
CE-4 were drilled near the east and west ends of the former acetone product tank (Tank
1). Boring CE-2 was drilled near the north end of the former waste acetone tank (Tank
2). Boring CE-3 was drilled near the former pipeline. As agreed to by the County, soil
samples for analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were collected in the native
material beneath the former tank and pipeline excavations. The boring logs and certified
analytical reports for the recent work are attached.
Soil samples collected at depths of 17.5 to 20.5 feet from borings CE-1, CE-2, and CE-4
did not contain detectable concentrations of VOCs. The soil sample collected at a depth
of 4 feet from boring CE-3, drilled in the area of the former pipeline, was reported to
contain acetone (0.140 milligrams per kilogram [mg/kg]), benzene (0.017 mg/kg), and
2-butanone (0.025 mg/kg).
Based on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Preliminary Remediation Goals
(PRGs) for residential sites (February 1, 1995), the concentrations of VOCs in the
111 W.
