KLEIN FELDER
N File No. 23480020.D00
August 26, 1994
rl
• That environmental soil and/or groundwater remediation will occur after the tanks have been
removed and the excavation backfilled.
We recommend that drilled cast4n7place piers be used to underpin the garage foundation. The
existing foundation should be connected to the drilled pier in a manner such that the column loads
of the building are transferred to the drilled piers. Piers should be placed under every column load
and every 10 feet on center whichever is less. Piers should embed at least five (5) feet past the
depth of excavation. The recommended friction value for drilled piers is 1 ,200 psf for the clayey
and sandy silt soil anticipated below the depth of tanks. Since the upper portion of drilled pier
will likely be exposed by the excavation; minimal lateral support of the piers is expected.
;j Probably the most effective means of providing lateral support for the existing footings may be
within the building itself, such as a structural connection to the floor slab. We recommend that
the actual design of the drilled piers and evaluation of lateral support be provided by a structural
engineer.
A copy of this report should be submitted to the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department. This report and the conclusions and recommendations presented are subject to the
"Limitations" presented in Chapter 7.0 of this report.
a
i
i
 I
EIrl:md 7EI94
Copyright 1994 Kleinfelder, Inc.
