' Fourth Quarter/Annual
2008 Groundwater
ARCADIS Monitoring Report
tChevron Bulk Fuel Terminal
100-1621
' 22888 Kasson Road
Banta,California
to 10 feet bgs,and sand and silt units with clay lenses ranging from 1 to 5 feet in
' thickness beyond 10 feet bgs. Hydrogeologic data collected at the site also indicates
that the Upper Tulare Aquifer is subdivided into the following three flow zones:
1. The Upper A zone located from 5 to 15 feet bgs
2. The A zone located from 15 to 35 feet bgs
' 3. The B zone encountered as shallow as 50 feet bgs
' These three flow zones of the Upper Tulare Aquifer underlying the site are separated
by apparent discontinuous layers of less permeable silt and clay(BBL,2006.
Conceptual Site Model-Chevron Bulk Fuel Terminal 1001621, Banta, California).
' Beneficial uses of groundwater in the area include municipal, domestic, irrigation, stock
watering, process and service supply. Groundwater, however, within the Upper A,A,
' and B zones of the Upper Tulare Aquifer in this area is not typically used for human
consumption due to poor water quality as a result of high boron concentrations and
salinity(BBL,2006. Conceptual Site Model-Chevron Bulk Fuel Terminal 1001621,
' Banta,California).
Previous releases of fuel, remedial actions to abate these releases, investigations and
routine groundwater monitoring events are detailed in previous reports.
tGroundwater Monitoring and Sampling
' Quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling was conducted between November 5
and 6 of 2008 by Gettler-Ryan, Inc.(G-R). Between November 3 and 4 and November
11 and 13 of 2008 ARCADIS supervised Cascade Drilling, Inc.(Cascade)during the
development of 18 newly installed monitoring wells. Groundwater samples were
collected from the newly installed wells following development activities, and the
analytical results of these groundwater samples are discussed within this report. The
' details regarding the installation of these monitoring wells will be provided in a
subsequent report. The groundwater monitoring program consists of water-level-
elevation monitoring, sample collection and the chemical analysis of samples in
' accordance with the RWQCB's November 29,2007 MRP(R5-2007-0829)issued for
the site, as described below.
' 2of17
